Organically Grow Website Traffic
A click-through rate (CTR) is a vital metric for your digital marketing efforts. It helps you understand how effective your search engine listing is and whether it’s attracting visitors to your website. When you look at the ratio of people who click on an organic result in the search engine results pages and then divide that by the total number of searches (impressions), that’s your CTR. For example, if 100 people see one of your online ads and 10 people click to learn more, then that ad has a CTR of 10%. But, if you find that your web traffic is down, there are ways to improve your CTR. Here’s how:
Use images
It’s that old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. It still rings true and draws in the eye of the user. Including an image is a proven way to boost organic CTR. Including a picture also improves the chances that your URL will be clicked on when people find something on the images search results page. There is one catch, however, whatever you include, remember to name all images correctly and add alt text.
Go local
With more and more people turning to their mobile devices, localized personalization is extremely valuable. Because most mobile devices automatically have locations turned on, Google can see a user’s location and then provide local solutions to their search query. When you localize your content, you can drive users to information on your site. Research shows that companies that localize their content can increase their click-through rate by as much as 42 percent.
Leverage emotions
There is a fine line to tread so you don’t get clickbaity, but when you use emotions in headlines, you’re more likely to increase CTR. Some words that effectively drive action include: “best,” “amazing,” “free,” “proven,” “powerful,” “secret,” “instant,” and “premium.”
Use numbers
Putting numbers in your headlines is a quick and easy way to grab a reader’s attention. You improve CTR because people know what to expect and want to be able to browse a list. Don’t be afraid to play the numbers game by including percentages, dates, and dollar amounts.
Build data-driven user personas
When you understand your target audience, those ideal customers will not only click links, but are more likely to return. This increases your overall CTR. So how do you identify those customers? User personas. Take a look at your existing data such as people who signed up for a newsletter or made a purchase in the past. Research what these consumers “look like” and create content specifically for them. When you give them exactly what they are seeking, of course they will click to learn more.
